Division of Lifetime Learning
The Division of Lifetime Learning builds on the foundation of Georgia Tech’s ecosystem for lifetime learning, including the Center for 21st Century Universities (C21U), the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC), and Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE). Each unit holds expertise in a particular area of the lifetime learning spectrum and serves as leaders across the Institute, supporting learners in every phase of their life, from kindergarten through retirement. Collectively, they aim to combine the traditional activities of a college, such as research and instruction, with innovative, learner-focused services that make learning accessible, affordable, and achievable for learners of all ages.
Center for 21st Century Universities (C21U)
Established in 2010, C21U is Georgia Tech's living laboratory for fundamental educational change. Serving as a research arm of the Division of Lifetime Learning, C21U's technologists and researchers support the Institute's innovation mission by pushing the boundaries of what is already done in higher education. C21U is not just a unit but a community of innovators collaborating with diverse internal and external partners across various disciplines to catalyze innovation. Through a sustained and systemic research, experimentation, design, prototyping, and implementation program, C21U leads the Institute in thought leadership, educational technology design, community building, and support for all Georgia Tech stakeholders, regardless of age.
Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC)
CEISMC has been the primary connection point between Georgia Tech faculty and students and the pre-collegiate education community since 1991. CEISMC provides inclusive and inspiring STEM/STEAM enrichment experiences in classroom and out-of-school settings. CEISMC develops an array of extensive research and implementation programs focused on multiple dimensions of STEM educational reform. CEISMC offers teacher professional development focused on innovative curricula and evidence-based practices in fields such as STEM with arts and music integration, computer science, robotics, invention, and entrepreneurship. These opportunities and initiatives are achieved through school and community outreach and local and sustainable partnerships that foster student success and workforce development. Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE)
GTPE is the global campus and lifetime education arm of the Institute, providing continuing education for more than a century and learning at a distance for more than 40 years. GTPE offers professional development courses, certificate programs, and online master’s degrees in various formats to meet the needs of working professionals and industry partners in STEM and business fields worldwide. On an annual basis, GTPE serves and supports more than 100,000 learners — the "students” who don't live on campus but outnumber those physically here, representing industries such as data science and analytics, safety and health, cybersecurity, and project management.
