Four-year and three-year scholarship students are selected through nationwide competition. Selection criteria include SAT or ACT scores, high school academic performance, and extracurricular activities. The selection process is administered by the chief of Naval Education and Training; however, the NROTC unit will provide guidance and information to applicants. The NROTC scholarship pays for tuition (and applicable fees) and textbooks. The Navy also provides uniforms and a $250-$400 per month subsistence allowance. The Naval Science Department conducts an orientation program (INFORM) for all new NROTC scholarship students during the week prior to the start of the fall semester. Scholarship students must complete the naval science curriculum and also participate in summer assignments from four to six weeks during the summers between academic years.
